Women’s Tennis Continues Historic Weekend with Win Over Chattanooga

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis claimed another historic victory Sunday afternoon as the squad took down the Chattanooga Mocs 4-3 in an incredible comeback win. The victory stands as the first time the Bisons have beaten the Mocs in program history.

The two squads first faced off in 2006 and since then, tonight's match stands as the squad's 11th meeting with Chattanooga and the Bisons' first victory over their long-time foe.

The Bisons got off to a slow start on Sunday as Sofiia Paladi and Mariya Dolzhenko fell 6-1 on court one and Anja Trbeznik and Soina Pieczynska fell 6-4 on court three to award the Mocs the doubles point and an early lead.

Lipscomb's squad fought to find their stride and Mariya Dolzhenko was the first to put the Bisons on the board with her 6-2, 6-3 win on court four.

Chattanooga made a push on the lower courts as Anja Trbeznik fell 6-4, 6-2 on court five and Sonia Pieczynska dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match on court six to put the Mocs up 3-1 in the contest.

After all three top singles courts fell to their Chattanooga opponents, all three Bisons fought back to win their second sets and force three-set battles.

Sofiia Paladi was the first to complete her comeback win, turning around from her first set loss to claim a 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot and pull the Bisons within one point of the Mocs.

Sasha Dobranos cut the Chattanooga lead once more and leveled the playing field with her dramatic 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory on court one to bring the match score to 3-3.

For the second match in a row, Rut Galindo completed a three-set comeback win to clinch the Bisons' first win over an opponent in program history. Galindo delivered a 1-6, 3-6, 1-6 win on court three to clinch the match for the Bisons with a 4-3 final score.

With Sunday's win, the Bisons stay undefeated in their 2024 campaign and have kicked off this season with their best start in 17 years.
