Women’s Tennis Drops Close Match to Gonzaga

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis returned to their home away from home at the Ensworth High School Tennis Complex Sunday night to take on Gonzaga in their eighth match of the season. The Bisons got off to a hot start, claiming a 3-1 lead before falling in three sets in the final three singles matches to fall 4-3 to the Bulldogs.
 
The Purple and Gold put up big points early in the match, claiming the doubles point in a tiebreak match after Anja Trbeznik and Sonia Pieczynska fell 6-3 on court three and Sofiia Paladi and Mariya DOlzhenko earned a 6-3 win on court one to bring things tied. Sasha Dobranos and Rut Galindo delivered a 7-6 (7-5) win on court two after nearly an hour of play to secure the first point of the match for the Bisons.
 
The Bulldogs battled back and put a point on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Piezynska on court six to bring things tied once more. Dolzhenko then delivered a decisive 6-2, 6-4 win on court four to claim her seventh straight-set singles win of the season.
 
Paladi then pushed the Bisons on to a 3-1 overall lead as she claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win over her opponent on court two before the Bulldogs cut that lead to one point just a few minutes later with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Galindo at the No. 3 spot.
 
After a tremendous fight at the top spot, Dobranos fell to her Gonzaga opponent 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), bringing the match tied at 3-3 as the third set of Trbeznik's match on court five raged on. An electric match for Trbeznik ended in heartbreak for the Bisons as the Bulldogs claimed a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win to clinch the match 4-3.

The Bisons next face local foe Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 25th in a matchup beginning at 1:00pm CT at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center, hosted by the Bruins.
