Baseball Falls to No. 13 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE - Lipscomb baseball hosted No. 13 Vanderbilt for a midweek matchup, the first time the Commodores played at Ken Dugan Field since the 2010 season.

Vanderbilt got the best of the Bisons in this year's matchup, falling to the Commodores 15-4 in seven complete innings. With the loss, the Bisons fall to 11-24 on the season and will jump back into conference play this weekend against Eastern Kentucky.

The Commodores scored four runs in the first frame. They opened the contest with three straight RBI singles, followed by a fielder's choice for the fourth run. 

Lipscomb scored two runs in the bottom half on Austin Kelly's RBI single to right center. Parks Bouck then scored Mason Lundgrin on a fielder's choice to cut the Commodores' lead in half. 

Vanderbilt scored another on a wild pitch in the top of the second before rallying off four runs in the third to take a 9-2 advantage.

The Commodores continued to have their way, plating six more runs in the fifth before the Bisons could get some offense going in the sixth.

Lipscomb had another two-spot in the frame, scoring on an RBI single to right field from Parks Bouck. This was followed by a single to center field from Will Lee to score Trace Willhoite

The Bisons held the Commodores scoreless for the game's final three frames but couldn't produce more than their four runs prior, resulting in a 15-4 decision in seven complete innings. 

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Vanderbilt finished with 15 runs on 12 hits with two errors. 
  • Lipscomb finished with four hits, fifth hits, and three errors. 
  • Vanderbilt starter Brennan Seiber earned the win on the hill, improving to 2-0 on the year, while Lipscomb starter Evan Harmon went down for the loss, moving to 2-2. 
  • The matchup was the seventh for the Bisons against an SEC foe
