Bisons Send Lions Packing in 6-1 Win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis welcomed the North Alabama Lions to Music City on Wednesday for their seventh ASUN match of the season. After a delay and a change of venue to work around a storm rolling through Nashville, the Bisons secured a 6-1 win over the Lions to earn their fourth ASUN win of the year.

The match began on an overcast afternoon at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Lipscomb's campus and the Bisons started the match off on a hot pace.

Underclassmen Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi kicked things off for the Purple and Gold with a 6-3 win on the top court in doubles play.

Anja Trbeznik and Deborah Dominguez Collado combined for a 7-5 win on court three to clinch the doubles point for the Bisons as rain rolled into the area and halted the match for a brief time.

To ensure the match was played to completion, the teams resumed the match a few hours later at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center where the two squads fought for control over the match's momentum after the break.

Mariya Dolzhenko played true to form and set the ball rolling for the Bisons as she delivered a quick 6-1, 6-0 win on court four to give the Bisons a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bisons' lead grew once again as Sofiia Paladi put up a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot to put the Purple and Gold in clinching position with her 16th singles win of the season, defeating the reigning ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week in the process.

Senior Sasha Dobranos clinched the match for the Bisons with her gritty 6-4, 6-3 win at the top spot to secure Lipscomb's fourth ASUN win of the season.

The vicious battle continued, and Rut Galindo battled hard for the Bisons on court three to bring home a comeback three-set win (4-6, 6-1, 7-5) and give Lipscomb a buffer point as they extended to a 5-0 lead.

Anja Trbeznik completed a three-set win of her own moments later as she emerged victorious in a knock-down, drag-out contest on court five with a 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 victory to add to her tally.

After a hard battle and holding off a 9-2 lead in the 10-point tiebreak, the Lions found their first point of the match as Alins Cherniaieva fell 6-2, 1-6, 0-1 (5-10) in the final match of the night.
