Women’s Soccer Dominant Second Half Leads to Shutout Win

Final Score: Lipscomb 3, Coastal Carolina 0
Location: Nashville, TN (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb (3-2-1), Coastal Carolina (1-3-2)

Lipscomb put on a show in their final non-conference home match of the season to shut out Coastal Carolina in a 3-0 victory.

The first half of the game started off slow for both teams. Despite their best scoring efforts, the Bisons were unable to convert any goals to start due to Coastal's tactic to maintain possession in their backfield, which accounted for a whopping 74% of their possession time. The Chanticleer's tactic prevented either team from recording too many shots, holding Lipscomb to six and only having one of their own in the first half.

The Bisons opened the second half and quickly scored a goal off a corner kick in the 50' minute. In their second consecutive corner kick, Bella Carapazza launched the ball into the box to set Lucy Ream up for a header to put the Bisons up and with the game-winning goal. Ream's goal is her first of the season and fourth in her Lipscomb career as a senior defender.

Less than 10 minutes later, Lipscomb's Maddy Rhodes scored a goal in the 59' minute. Rhodes was able to force a turnover on Coastal Carolina's throw-in, pass the ball to Bella Carapazza who touch-passed it back to Rhodes, and score a goal off the cross-shot. Along with Ream, it was Rhodes's first goal of her fifth-year season.

Lipscomb's third and final goal was scored by none other than Kiara Pralle in the 82' minute. Summer Ellmore executed a perfect pass up-field to Pralle, who was able to fake out the defender for the second home game in a row and score on the open goal. Pralle recorded her third goal of her senior season during the match to lead the team in goals thus far.

The Bisons were led in shots by Maddy Rhodes with 5 shots, 4 of them being on goal. Bella Carapazza led the squad in assists with two in the match, her first two of the season. Goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar recorded two goals and allowed zero to reach the net.

"The pressure we had was as good as we've had all season," Coach O'Brien said after the match. "I'm just really proud of the progression we're making each and every week."

Lipscomb faces off against their second SEC opponent of the season on Sept. 15th in Oxford, Miss. The Bisons will take on the Ole Miss Rebels with a kickoff slated for 1:00 PM for their final non-conference game of the season.
