Men's Basketball Overcomes Slow Start To Defeat West Georgia

THE SHORT STORY
 
Lipscomb Men's Basketball overcame a slow start on Saturday to defeat West Georgia 86-76, improving to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in ASUN play. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The squads traded buckets out of the gate, but West Georgia got a little separation just before the first media timeout for a 12-8 advantage. 
 
West Georgia was shooting at a high rate, while the Bisons were struggling from the floor and the Wolves opened a 24-14 advantage at the second media timeout. 
 
The Wolves got out to as much as a 15-point lead in the first half, but the Bisons hung in and cut the West Georgia lead 38-33 at the halftime break, despite being out-shot by 14 percentage points from the field. 
 
Out of the break, the Bisons outscored West Georgia 10-3 to take a 43-41 advantage, its first since the opening minutes, after a traditional three-point play from Jacob Ognacevic
 
 
Lipscomb's shooting continued to improve as Gyasi Powell nailed his fourth triple of the night, pushing the Bisons to a 46-41 advantage just before the first media timeout of the second frame. 
 
The Bisons retook control over the next four minutes, extending its run 19-2 over 5:59 with a huge pair of triples from Joe Anderson and Powell for a 57-43 lead, forcing a Wolves' timeout. 
 
 
Red-hot shooting continued for Lipscomb, as the Bisons were 7-for-9 from beyond the arc at the under-eight media timeout for a 68-53 advantage. 
 
 
Lipscomb continued to dominate down the stretch, seeing out an 86-67 victory to improve to 3-1 in ASUN play. 
 
HERD NOTES
  • Gyasi Powell led all scorers with 20 points, going 6-for-10 from three.
  • Jacob Ognacevic notched his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Other double-digit scorers were Will Pruitt (14) and Joe Anderson (17). 
  • Lipscomb outscored West Georgia 53-29 in the second half. 
  • The Bisons won the rebounding battle 44-33.
