NASHVILLE, TN – Lipscomb Women's Soccer secured another statement victory Sunday afternoon, defeating Central Arkansas 2-0 in their second match up of the season. The win marked head coach
Kevin O'Brien's 150th career Division I Victory, as the Bisons extended their unbeaten streak in ASUN play and are one step closer to officially clinching a postseason berth.
The Bisons came out firing from the opening whistle, pressing high and creating early chances. Hailey Johnson took the first shot of the match just seconds after kickoff, followed by a dangerous look from London De Fini moments later. Their early energy paid off in the 8th minute, when a corner kick from De Fini found Tatum Ahlemeyer, who's header landed at the feet of Skylar Cole. Cole flicked it on to Hailey Johnson, before Johnson buried the finish to give Lipscomb the lead.
Lipscomb doubled its advantage in the 25th minute, when Maddy Rhodes threaded a perfect through ball to De Fini, whose shot deflected off a defender and rolled into the bottom-left corner of the net. The Bisons dominated possession through the first half, keeping UCA's attack largely contained.
The second half featured a more even battle as UCA pushed forward in search of a comeback, but Lipscomb's defense held strong. Goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar came up big with a diving save in the final minutes to preserve the shutout — her third in conference play.
With the win, Lipscomb remains one of the top teams in the ASUN and continues its unbeaten streak at home this season.
Head coach Kevin O'Brien praised his team's effort and consistency after the match:
"Yeah, super excited about another conference win. It puts us in a really good spot. I think we may have clinched the playoff spot. Obviously seeding is yet to come, depending on how the final couple weeks go, but for me, just incredibly pleased at how we started the game. Really competitive, creating chances right off the kickoff and early goal, I think helped us out, settle into the game, feel confident in what we were doing and you know, it's always a battle when we play those guys. UCA is a strong program, great coaching, great players, so to get a result against them anytime, fantastic. And yeah, just really excited to be able to be where we are, where we are in the table and want to continue kind of the momentum moving forward. You know, I know we're going to hit a long, you know, three game road trip to finish things out, but, you know, the task is just keep playing the way we're playing, keep doing what we're doing, creating chances, we're creating. We've been really stingy defensively and if we can continue to do that, I feel like our chances are really, really strong."
The Bisons now begin a three-game road stretch to close the regular season, beginning next Sunday against Austin Peay at 1 PM CT.
