Bisons Fall in Season Opener at Vanderbilt

THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Men's Basketball fell 105-61 at Vanderbilt on Monday night to open the season. Ross Candelino was the Bisons' leading scorer with a career-high 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vanderbilt got out to an early lead with three early triples for an 11-0 advantage, prompting head coach Kevin Carroll to call a timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Commodores connected on a free throw, but Lipscomb scored the next points from the floor with a corner triple from Ross Candelino, marking the Bisons' first points of the season.
The Bisons began to find a little more offense in the coming minutes and trailed 22-8 at the under-12 media timeout.
Lipscomb began to get some offensive life when Kellan Boylan split the Commodores and drove to the bucket, making it a 24-12 game.
Vanderbilt, however, used a pair of turnovers to spark a 7-0 run, increasing its lead 31-12, leading to another Lipscomb timeout.
The Commodores were connecting at an extremely high clip, shooting 59 percent from the floor with five minutes left in the half to open up a 46-17 advantage. At the final media timeout of the first frame, Lipscomb trailed 54-22.
Out of the timeout, the Bisons hit back-to-back field goals from Titas Sargiunas and Candelino. Lipscomb trailed 56-26 at the half.
The size and athleticism of the Vanderbilt squad continued to plague the Bisons in the second half.
Candelino was a bright spot for the Bisons, scoring his career-high 15th point in the early minutes of the second frame.
Sargiunas was also a solid contributor in the second half for the Bisons with good work on both ends of the floor.
Vanderbilt continued to assert its power down the stretch as the Bisons fell 105-61.
