THE SHORT STORY
Jalyn Holcomb's career-high 30 points and a program record nine three pointers led Lipscomb Women's Basketball to an 86-72 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got out to a hot start, taking an early 9-0 advantage with a pair of triples from
Jalyn Holcomb and another from
Molly Heard, forcing an early Queens timeout.
The three-ball continued to fall for the Bisons as it ballooned its lead 21-5 after going 6-for-9 from deep with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter.
Lipscomb continued to be the aggressor and Holcomb stayed hot early in the second quarter. Holcomb made impressive passes and was a perfect 4-for-4 from deep for a quick 15 points.
The Bisons out-paced Queens 49-24 in the first half for a big lead heading into the locker room.
Out of the break, Queens outscored Lipscomb 8-2 over the first two minutes, prompting a
Lauren Sumski timeout.
Lipscomb picked up the pace out of the timeout, but traded buckets with Queens for much of the third quarter. The Royals outscored Lipscomb by six points in the third quarter, but the Bisons held onto a 69-50 advantage after three frames.
The Bisons responded well early in the fourth quarter with a couple of triples from Holcomb and Heard for a 77-56 at the fourth quarter media timeout.
Out of the break, Holcomb connected on her ninth three-pointer of the day for a career-high 30 points as the Bisons held an 80-56 advantage with just over seven minutes left to play.
Queens tightened things up on the Bisons late in the third quarter with a 14-0 run that shaved the Lipscomb lead 80-70 with 2:10 left to play.
Lipscomb, however, was able to see out an 86-72 victory on Saturday afternoon in Allen Arena.
HERD NOTES
- Holcomb led all scorers with 30 points. Other double-digit scorer included Heard (18) and Bella Vinson (10).
- Claira McGowan and Holcomb each had a team-high five rebounds.
- The Bisons connected on 18 three-pointers on the afternoon, shooting 56-percent from range.
