THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb was unable to overcome a poor start on Tuesday night, falling to Eastern Kentucky 66-57 on the road Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
EKU got out to a hot start in front of a rowdy crowd on Tuesday night with an early 8-0 advantage that forced a
Lennie Acuff timeout.
Lipscomb finally got on the board out of the timeout when
Charlie Williams connected on a jumper. Lipscomb began to settle in, but EKU's offense stayed hot. The Colonels led 15-8 at the first media timeout of the game.
The back-and-forth action continued, but Lipscomb continued to struggle with poor shooting. However, just before the under-eight timeout, Williams hit a triple for a 22-14 Colonels lead.
Lipscomb continued to fight back and cut into the EKU lead. Before the final media timeout of the half, Lipscomb's offense started to gel and ball movement opened up a wide-open triple for
Will Pruitt. He drained it, shaving the EKU lead 26-23.
EKU, however, got its lead back out to 34-27 with an 8-4 run just before the half. Lipscomb was shooting just 27-percent at the break.
The Colonels outscored Lipscomb 12-2 to open the second half for a 46-29 advantage with 16:07 to play.
Lipscomb continued to battle through a lot of contact and just before the first media timeout of the half,
Jacob Ognacevic hit a layup through contact for a chance at three points.
The Bisons continued to struggle on the offensive end, shooting just 28-percent, but hung around at a 53-43 deficit with 9:47 left to play in the second frame.
Lipscomb hung in and cut the lead to single-digits, 59-50, after a
Joe Anderson layup with 3:40 left to play.
The Bisons fought to the end, but ultimately fell 66-57 on Tuesday evening.
