Lipscomb Softball Wraps Up First ASUN Series

NASHVILLE, TN – After splitting the doubleheader yesterday, the Bisons and North Alabama Lions took to Draper Diamond for day two of ASUN softball action. The squads faced off in a rubber match for the series win and it was North Alabama who claimed the title before returning to Florence.

NORTH ALABAMA 9, LIPSCOMB 0
Laine Barefoot started in the circle for the Bisons, forcing the Lions to go three up three down. Alyssa Hastings led off for the Bisons, recording a double down the leftfield before advancing to third on a wild pitch during the next at-bat. Despite Hastings's position on third, the Bisons ended the inning with no runs.

After allowing a single in the top of the second, the Bisons stepped up big time to put two Lions out on a double play on the ground ball from Barefoot to Hastings to Presley Rader. The Bisons recorded no hits, and the score remained 0-0 through the bottom of the fourth.

North Alabama capitalized off scoring opportunities in the top of the fifth. After the Lions earned their first score, Ryleigh Sapp took to the circle. The Bisons gave up five more runs before Courtney Sauer relieved Sapp, and after walking one batter, the half-inning ended with the Bisons down 0-6. In the bottom of the fifth, Lipscomb loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth off two walks and an error but did not score any runs.

The Lions rode their momentum into the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on two consecutive at-bats. Barefoot returned to the contest to relive Sauer. By the top of the sixth, Lipscomb was down 0-9. The Bisons struggled to find a run and the Lions emerged from the afternoon victorious.

Both Alyssa Hastings and Presley Rader batted 1-2 on the afternoon.
