HOW IT HAPPENED
In doubles,
Sofiia Paladi and
Mariia Dolzhenko (3-3) picked up their first win in the spring with a 6-1 rout at the top flight.
With Belmont playing with five players, the Bisons clinched the doubles point by default and took the 1-0 lead. They also won the 6-singles by default as well to swell the lead to 2-0.
Paladi (20-5) and
Rut Galindo (5-4) rolled to straight-set wins on courts one and three, respectively to clinch the match.
One flight that finished early was the second. Dolzhenko and Viktoria Kliimand were in a dead heat. Tied at six, the set went into a tiebreak, and Lipscomb came out victorious 13-11 to take the opener. However, as Galindo clinched the match on court three, the contest was abandoned.
The Bisons have won the last 12 meetings over the Bruins, going back to 2014. This was the fourth shutout in that stretch and two in the last three seasons.
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will now turn their attention to ASUN play, starting with Bellarmine to begin a three-match road swing. The match will take place from Louisville, Kentucky next Friday, March 14.
