Lipscomb Softball Conquers ASUN Gold Division First-Place EKU In a Run Rule

NASHVILLE, TN – After taking two losses to the Colonels yesterday, the Bisons returned to Draper Diamond for the third and final game of the series against Eastern Kentucky. Both doubleheader games on day one of the series came down to the wire, with game one going into extra innings and game two having an eventful seventh inning.
 
EASTERN KENTUCKY 3, LIPSCOMB 11
The Colonels launched a homer to center field in their second at-bat of the game, but the Lipscomb was not deterred. Macyn Kirby led the Bisons off with a double and was advanced to third on a ground out.
 
Josey Polk matched Kirby's double with one of her own for an RBI and to tie the game up. Presley Rader singled and advanced to second on the throw for a second Bisons' run from J.Polk.
 
Laine Barefoot recorded two strikeouts in the top of the second to force the Colonels into a no-hit inning. The Colonels started to find their grove in the top of the third, forcing two Bisons errors but finding no runs.
 
Lipscomb lit up the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs and forcing an Eastern Kentucky error. Macey Ogle reached base on a walk, followed by a single from Tori Womack. The Colonels relieved their pitcher, but it was to no avail.
 
Mallory Ogle recorded an RBI single to send her sister Macey home and advance Womack to second. Kirby reached on a fielding error to load the bases and Alyssa Hastings recorded a 2 RBI single for Womack and Mal.Ogle to add runs to the board. Lipscomb led the matchup after the fourth inning for the first time in the series with a 5-1 lead.
 
Eastern Kentucky added a second run to their total in the top of the fifth. Tori Womack launched her third home run of the season to left center for 3 RBI on scores from Elle Smith and Mac.Ogle. Up 8-2, victory was just out of reach for Lipscomb.
 
The Colonels scored again in the top of the sixth, but the Bisons kept their foot on the gas. J.Polk and Rader singled in back-to-back at-bats before Brenna Sherman doubled to left center for a run from J.Polk. Smith was walked to load the bases with no outs. Rader scored on a SAC fly from Mac.Ogle
 
With two outs and bases loaded, Kirby stepped up to the plate. The Bisons led 10-3 and Kirby's single advanced Sherman home for the game-winning score to run rule the Colonels.
 
Lipscomb recorded 13 hits on the afternoon, hitting a collective 0.448 with 11 runs and RBI. The Bisons earned seven walks and were not struck out throughout the contest.
 
Josey Polk hit 3-4, earning two runs and an RBI with a double. Both Macey Ogle hit 1.000 on the day Mallory Ogle batted 1-2, combining for three runs, two RBI, and drawing four walks. Tori Womack batted 2-4 on two runs, including a home run triple.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb softball will travel in-state to Chattanooga for a midweek matchup against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. First pitch is set for 4 PM CT on Tuesday, Apr. 15th.
