CONWAY, AR – The Bisons took a trip to Conway, AR for their first and only series against the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears this season. Entering the doubleheader, the teams were neck-and-neck in the ASUN Gold Division standings with Central Arkansas in third and Lipscomb in fourth.
LIPSCOMB 3, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 5
Alyssa Hastings recorded a double on her first pitch faced of the game for her nineteenth of the season. She advanced to third on a ground out and
Presley Rader was walked to place runners on the corners. On her attempt to steal second, Rader was ruled to have left the bag early for the third out to close out the top half of the first inning.
Lipscomb was the first to strike, scoring two runs in the top of the third.
Macey Ogle was walked to lead the inning off before
Mallory Ogle recorded a SAC bunt to advance her sister to second.
Macyn Kirby singled for runners on first and third and Mac.Ogle scored on a
Josey Polk RBI single while Kirby advanced to third. During Rader's at-bat, J.Polk and Kirby successfully executed a double steal for a 2-0 lead.
Central Arkansas sent their first runner across the plate in the bottom of the inning. The Sugar Bears shut the Bisons out in the top of the fourth, allowing no hits and no walks.
Mac.Ogle recorded a leadoff double in the top of the fifth to get Lipscomb back up and running.
Grace Cassarello entered the matchup to pinch-run and advanced to third on a ground out. Kirby recorded an RBI single on a score from Cassarello to add to the Bisons's lead.
The Sugar Bears tied the game up on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Central Arkansas struck again to take their first lead of the matchup, up 4-3.
Elle Smith recorded her first hit of the contest in the top of the sixth and advanced to second for a scoring position, but the Bisons could not tie the game up. Central Arkansas extended their lead on an RBI single to post five runs on the afternoon. The Bisons relieved
Laine Barefoot with
Macey Ogle and the Bisons allowed no more hits.
Mal.Ogle made a huge play in the top of the seventh, stealing second with one out and no runners on base. After reviewing the play, the umpires confirmed the call to breathe life into the Bisons.
Central Arkansas shut the Bisons down, ending the inning soon afterward to secure their win.
Macyn Kirby hit 2-4 with a run and an RBI. The Ogle sisters combined for 2-4 hitting with a pair of doubles, a run, and a walk.
LIPSCOMB 2, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 10
Alyssa Hastings came out with a bang, sending a ball over the fence for a home run single.
Despite Hastings's best efforts, the Sugar Bears stole the lead on a two-run stand-up triple in the bottom of the first.
Brenna Sherman put her foot on the gas in the top of the second with a double, advancing to third on an error by a fielder.
Elle Smith reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second and Sherman was tagged out.
Tori Womack sent Smith home with a double of her own to tie the game up.
Neither squad was able to score again until the fourth. The Sugar Bears took control of the game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Macey Ogle entered the circle for
Courtney Sauer to close the inning out, but Central Arkansas was not done yet, scoring a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-2 lead.
The Sugar Bears walked the game off in the bottom of the sixth with a second two-run homer to win the series.
Alyssa Hastings's home run contributed to her 1-3 hitting with one run and one RBI.
Tori Womack also hit 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
