Softball Shuts Out Bellarmine for a Season Sweep

LOUISVILLE, KY  – After sweeping yesterday's doubleheader to solidify their place in the ASUN Tournament, the Bisons finished out their series against Bellarmine for game number three. Lipscomb won all three games of their first series against the Knights in March this season and were looking for a second undefeated series to cap off their regular season road matches.

LIPSCOMB 5, BELLARMINE 0
Elle Smith got the Bisons fired up early in the game after recording Lipscomb's second hit of the game in the top of the second. Smith stole second on an at-bat from Presley Rader before advancing to third on a throwing error.

The Bisons kept making the most of their time on base, recording two stolen bases at once in the top of the fourth. After a walk from Presley Rader, Smith singled through the left side for runners on first and second. Smith and Rader stole second and third simultaneously for two runners in scoring position, but both were left stranded.

Courtney Sauer continued her hot streak from yesterday afternoon's game. Throughout the six innings she pitched, she allowed just one walk and eight hits with a strikeout to close out the bottom of the fifth.

Lipscomb scored a hard-earned in the top of the sixth. Brenna Sherman was nearly tagged while advancing to second for out number two of the inning, but she evaded the tag and Rader took first. Smith reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on an error, pushing Rader to third and Sherman home for the score.

Tori Womack stepped up in the next at-bat and recorded a single to earn runs from Smith and Rader for a 3-0 Bisons lead.

Bellarmine fought back hard, creating scoring opportunities however they could. The Bisons' defense stayed strong, not allowing the tides to turn.

The Knights relieved their pitcher in the seventh, but the Bisons could not be stopped. Mallory Ogle and Macyn Kirby recorded back-to-back hits to lead off the inning, both advancing on a passed ball. With runners on second and third, Alyssa Hastings launched a rocket through right field for two RBI on scored from Mal.Ogle and Kirby.

Laine Barefoot stepped into the circle to close out the game and shortly after, the Bisons earned the win that solidified their sweep.
