Softball Bogged Down by Home Runs in Doubleheader Losses to Austin Peay

NASHVILLE, TN  – The Bisons dropped in both doubleheader games to Austin Peay on Thursday night. A barrage of home runs solidified the Govs' series victory with Austin Peay scoring eight runs on five homers throughout the two games.
 
AUSTIN PEAY 8, LIPSCOMB 1
The Govs got off to a hot start. The visiting team recorded two hits in the top of the first, including an RBI triple.
 
Lipscomb recorded just one hit in the first four innings from Elle Smith. The junior singled through the left side in the bottom of the second before the half-inning closed.
 
Austin Peay extended their lead in the fifth, scoring four runs in the top of the inning. The Govs recorded two home runs, two doubles, and a single.
 
The Bisons got back into a rhythm in the bottom half of the inning, leading off with a double from Presley Rader.
   
Smith followed up with her second hit of the evening before Mallory Ogle singled to load the bases. Lipscomb put themselves in a position to score but ended up leaving all three runners stranded.
 
Lipscomb forced the Govs to go three up three down in the top of the sixth before returning to the plate. Alyssa Hastings led off the half-inning with her twenty-second double of the season.
   
Josey Polk recorded her first hit of the game, advancing to second on an error and pushing Hastings to third. Brenna Sherman loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch to advance to first. Hastings was tagged out at home on a fielder's choice during Smith's at-bat and J.Polk scored the first hit for the Bisons on the day on a wild pitch.

 
Austin Peay kept their foot on the gas, recording two more homers in the top of the seventh to send three runs over home plate and clinch the win.
 
AUSTIN PEAY 7, LIPSCOMB 1
The Govs struck again in game two, sending four runners home in two consecutive at-bats. Lipscomb responded in the bottom of the third, loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a hit. Brenna Sherman recorded an RBI single for the Bisons on a score from Mallory Ogle.
 
 
Down 4-1, the Bisons posted a shutout inning in the top of the fourth, but the Govs could not be stopped. Austin Peay recorded their fifth and final homer of the evening for two runs and sent their seventh runner home in the top of the sixth on a SAC fly.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will celebrate their seniors tomorrow in their final ASUN regular series matchup against the Govs. First pitch will be thrown at 5 PM at Draper Diamond.
