HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons picked up an early win in doubles, as
Antoine Testaud and
Oliver Thoeny (3-2) cruised to a 6-1 win at the No. 3 flight, but the Royals won the top two flights to secure the team point and get out to the 1-0 advantage.
Testaud (13-9) evened the match back up at a point apiece with a strong effort at No. 4 singles. After falling in the first set, 2-6, he allowed his opponent, Gavin Ryan, to win just one game in the next two frames, 6-1, 6-0.
After the Royals picked up victories on courts six and one to make it a 3-1 lead, the Bisons began the comeback. On court five, Thoeny (11-15) edged Filippo Scala, 6-4, 7-5.
Giovanni Ciocca (15-12) brought the match back even with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win at the second flight.
The match came down to the No. 3 spot in
Juan Lombisano and Jan Montero Diaz. After Diaz won the first set, 6-3, Lombisano (18-7) took the last two frames to complete the come-from-behind victory, 6-3, 6-2.
With the win, the Bisons improve to 3-3 in ASUN play and are tied for fifth in the standings. With six teams qualifying for the ASUN Championship, Lipscomb is 1.5 games ahead of Eastern Kentucky, their next opponent, with two matches remaining.
