FLORENCE, AL – Lipscomb softball closed their second series of the season with North Alabama after splitting day one. The Lions won the first series earlier in the season, so a win in the rubber match would have meant each program would have tallied a series in their win column. A big start for the Lions propelled them to victory, earning them both of the series wins.
LIPSCOMB 3, NORTH ALABAMA 4
Neither team scored in the first inning, and North Alabama was the first to strike in the bottom of the second with a home run single and a run on an error. The Bisons sent
Laine Barefoot into the circle with two runners on base. North Alabama sent a third runner home before the Bisons closed the inning out with the Lions up 3-0.
The Lions kept their hot streak going, tallying another run in the bottom of the third.
Alyssa Hastings responded with a lead-off home run single in the top of the sixth to put the Bisons on the board.
Presley Rader and
Josey Polk singled before Rader scored on a throwing error. The Lions's lead was cut to two and Lipscomb started to claw back at the Lions.
Lipscomb allowed no additional runs for the Lions to extend their lead as the Bisons tried to overcome the deficit. Pinch-hitting specialist
Tori Womack stepped up to the plate with two outs and no runners on in the top of the seventh. She launched the ball over center field for a statement home run, cutting North Alabama's lead to one run.
Despite their best efforts, the Bisons weren't able to complete the comeback and the Lions took the series win.
Alyssa Hastings batted 1.000 on the day with a home run and a double.
Laine Barefoot allowed only six hits and one run on 22 batters.
