Box Score MURFREESBORO, TN – Lipscomb softball traveled to Murfreesboro, TN for an in-state matchup with the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Entering the matchup, the Bisons were 19-19 and looking to move back into the win column in a mid-week night matchup.
LIPSCOMB 3, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 6
Lipscomb got their momentum going early in the game, with
Macyn Kirby and
Alyssa Hastings leading off with back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second,
Brenna Sherman singled to left field for a Kirby score, advancing Hastings to second.
After the Bisons recorded an out in the bottom of the first, Middle Tennessee responded with a home run. The Blue Raiders tied the game up on the homer, but it was their only hit of the inning and the second inning ensued quickly after.
Mallory Ogle doubled to left center in the top of the second after which
Elle Smith was walked. Both runners advanced to second and third, but the Bisons we unable to capitalize and the score stood at 1-1.
Lipscomb struck again in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Hastings. Mal.Ogle and Kirby were stationed on the corners, and Hastings sent Mal.Ogle home for Lipscomb's second run of the day. With two outs,
Josey Polk singled to left field to load the bases. On a wild pitch, all runners advanced a base and Kirby scored for a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Middle Tennessee made a big comeback in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs to even the score and forcing a Bisons error before a two run homer. Up 5-3, the Blue Raiders shifted the momentum in their favor quickly.
Courtney Sauer entered the circle for the Bisons to start off the bottom of the fifth. She allowed no hits before the sixth inning and Lipscomb took back to the plate, where they went three up three down.
The Blue Raiders scored their third home run on the night to lead off the bottom of the sixth. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Rader singled up the middle to keep the Bisons alive. She advanced to second on a passed ball, but the Blue Raiders closed the inning out to secure the win.
Mallory Ogle swung 2-3 on the night with a double and a run.
Macyn Kirby and
Alyssa Hastings both went 2-4 with Kirby recording two runs and Hastings recording an RBI.
