NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Belmont University to end a two-match home stand, Friday night inside Allen Arena.
Final Score: Belmont 3, Lipscomb 1 (13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17)
Location: Allen Arena
Records: Lipscomb (4-6), Belmont (9-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb was rolling in set one with an 11-4 lead after an
Ella Durham kill. Belmont made it a 15-9 score at the media break, but a 6-2 run by the Bisons, including three aces by
Sophia Hudepohl, helped the Bisons to a 25-13 victory.
LUV was dominant in the first set, posted 16 kills and a committed one attack error on 23 swings.
The Bisons stormed out to a 10-5 lead in set two, but the Bruins used three blocks, a 14-of-20 side out percentage and took advantage of five Lipscomb service errors and eight attack errors to win set two, 25-20.
Lipscomb saw themselves down 15-9 at the media timeout in set three and 19-13, but kills from
Sydney Strenger and
Courtney Jones made it a 21-16 deficit.
Later, Durham,
Brooklyn Fuchs and Jones rallied for three straight points to make it a 23-22 lead for the visiting Bruins. However, Belmont scored back-to-back from there to win set three and take the match lead at two sets to one.
Jones kept the Bisons in it late with six kills on 11 swings, but the Bruins posted a .407 attack percentage with 13 kills.
In set four, trailing 7-5, the Bisons reclaimed the lead on a
Sophia Hudepohl and Strenger block and two consecutive kills by
Ella Durham to lead 10-8, but a service error gave the Bruins the ball back and went on a 6-2 run to lead 14-12.
Unfortunately for the Bisons, the Bruins sealed the match, making a 6-2 run to 15-6 to lead 24-16.
LUV did get the ball back on the next point with a service error, but they would return the favor on the other end to give Belmont the victory.
