Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, SC – Lipscomb Softball split a pair of games Friday at the Furman Tournament, opening the day with an 11–4 win over Towson before dropping a hard-fought 8–9 decision to Bowling Green.
GAME 1: LIPSCOMB 11, TOWSON 4
Towson struck first in the top of the opening inning, scoring two runs, but the Bisons answered immediately. In the bottom of the first, Brenna Sherman launched a two-run home run to right-center to even the score at 2–2.
Lipscomb took control in the second inning with an offensive outburst. Elizabeth Martin crushed a two-run homer to left-center to give the Bisons the lead, followed by a two-RBI double down the left-field line from Macyn Kirby. Sherman stayed hot with her second home run of the game before Presley Rader added a solo shot to center field. Chapel Cunningham capped the inning with an RBI single as Lipscomb opened up a commanding advantage.
Towson pushed across unearned runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Bisons responded once again. In the bottom of the fifth, Mallory Ogle doubled to left field to drive in a run, and Kyla Jobe added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 11–4.
Courtney Sauer earned the complete-game win in the circle, going all seven innings while allowing six hits and four runs, only two earned. She struck out four and issued three walks, steadying the game early and letting the offense take over.
Sherman led the offense with two home runs, while Martin, Kirby, Ogle, and Cunningham each drove in runs.
GAME 2: LIPSCOMB 8, BOWLING GREEN 9
The nightcap turned into a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final inning. Lipscomb tied the game in the top of the fourth when Josephine Heuberger singled up the middle to score Mallory Ogle and make it 1–1, but Bowling Green answered with multiple runs to take a 4–1 lead.
Lipscomb chipped away in the fifth as Ogle reached on a throwing error, allowing Presley Rader to score. Bowling Green answered again to extend the lead to 5–2, but the Bisons mounted a rally in the sixth inning.
Briley Burns doubled to left to drive in a run before Sherman delivered a clutch two-RBI double to tie the game at 5–5. Moments later, Ogle singled to left-center to drive in two more runs, giving Lipscomb a 7–5 lead. Sherman added another RBI single in the seventh to extend the advantage to 8–5.
Bowling Green responded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs to tie the game and then walk it off with the winning run to claim the 9–8 victory.
Sherman powered the offense with multiple RBIs, while Ogle and Burns delivered key hits during the sixth-inning rally as the Bisons showed resilience throughout the contest.
