THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Men's Basketball was unable to overcome a poor shooting performance, falling 84-77 at West Georgia on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons got out to a good offensive start with three early buckets at the rim and a triple from
Ethan Duncan, but West Georgia held pace as Lipscomb narrowly led 9-7 at the first media timeout of the game.
Duncan continued to be Lipscomb's biggest offensive threat with nine points in the early goings as the teams traded buckets, but before the second media timeout, West Georgia got out to a 21-16 advantage.
The Bisons remained cold on offense as the Wolves led 29-20 at the under-eight media timeout.
Lipscomb scored six-straight out of the break before West Georgia got back on the board, but the game continued at a frenzied pace as the under-four timeout didn't come until 9.8 seconds were left in the half.
The Bisons ultimately trailed 44-37 at the halftime break. After the first 20 minutes, Lipscomb was shooting just 11.1% from three-point range (1-for-9) but was shooting 53.6% from the field. West Georgia, however, was outshooting Lipscomb from both the field (60.6%) and from deep (33.3%).
West Georgia scored the first four points of the half as Kevin Carroll called a timeout, trailing 48-37 with 19:06 on the clock.
Lipscomb was still searching for its first points of the half with 17:12 left when
Cole Middleton broke the drought with a pair from the charity stripe. Lipscomb went on to a 6-0 run, cutting the lead 50-43 at the under-16 media timeout.
Lipscomb got the West Georgia lead down to six, 56-50, but couldn't get a stop on the other end as the Wolves continued to lead 58-50 at the under-12 media break.
Titas Sargiunas hit a triple out of the break to shave the lead 58-53, but Lipscomb couldn't get any momentum. West Georgia led 71-60 at the under-eight media timeout that didn't come until 5:41 left in the second frame.
The Bisons picked up strong defense, getting the Wolves out of rhythm, but were unable to capitalize on the offensive end down the stretch as Lipscomb fell 84-77.
