NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb Softball fell 10-5 to Eastern Illinois on a cold and windy Wednesday night.
Eastern Illinois got on the board first when a sacrifice fly drove in a run in the top of the first inning. Later in the inning, the Panthers scored two more runs for an early 3-0 advantage.
Lipscomb responded by threatening with a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the inning after a
Brenna Sherman walk and
Presley Rader single through the right side. Another walk loaded the bases for the Bisons as
Elizabeth Martin stepped up to the plate. Martin blasted the ball to the left field fence, and Eastern Illinois' left fielder had a beat on it, but dropped the ball as the Bisons took advantage of the error to clear the bases and tie the game 3-3. Lipscomb then put runners on the corners and took advantage of a rundown to score the runner at third for a 4-3 lead before the inning ended.
EIU tied things up again during the top of the second inning, for a 4-4 game. Eastern Illinois held Lipscomb scoreless in the bottom of the second and increased its lead with a three-run top of the third as Lipscomb trailed 7-4.
The game was scoreless for the next two innings as Lipscomb continued to trail 7-4 at the end of the fifth complete inning.
EIU increased its lead to 10-4 in the top of the sixth with a three-run home run. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth when
Presley Rader hammered a solo shot past the right field wall, cutting the Panthers' lead 10-5.
Neither team scored in the final inning as Lipscomb eventually fell 10-5.

Lipscomb will continue ASUN play when it welcomes Central Arkansas for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 21. The games will begin at 1 p.m. CT at Draper Diamond.
