HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming off Kennesaw State's win over No. 58 South Alabama at home on Friday, they started Sunday's match in Nashville with a victory on court three in doubles, but Lipscomb had other plans. They rallied to take the next two flights to secure the team point.
Deborah Dominguez Collado and
Sofiia Paladi (15-3) pulled even with a 6-3 victory over Rianna Coreisa and Izabelle Persson on court two. Now 9-2 this spring, the duo extended their win streak to six straight.
Coming down to the final flight, it was a true back-and-forth bout.
Serafima Bobrovnikova and
Mariia Dolzhenko (6-3), trailing 5-4, won the final three games to win the team point and got out to a strong start.
Bobrovnikova (13-5) started singles out with a 6-1, 6-4 rout on court four to lead 2-0, but KSU evened the match with their victories at the top two flights.
On court five,
Martina Bovio (11-15) cruised to a 6-3 victory in the first set over Laura Nadaska. However, in the second, she overcame a third-set bid by Nadaska in a set break. Down 5-3 in the break, Bovio came back to secure four straight points to defeat her opponent 7-5 to put Lipscomb one win away from the match.
On court three, Dominguez Collado (14-8) went to a third set with Maria Ivankovic after each player traded 6-4 set scores. The junior dominated the final set and clinched the match for the Bisons with a 6-2 victory.
