2/27/2020 7:45:00 AM
She grew up in Goodlettsville, graduated from Lipscomb, met her husband in California, and returned to make their home in Nashville. An energetic cheerleader, Kate Rollins Rosenthal is now an accomplished attorney who is a smiling, familiar face on both sides of the Lipscomb campus. We learned more about this respected former Bison when she visited this week with LipscombSports.com.
What years did you cheer for Lipscomb?
I cheered from 1993-1995, and Vicki Roller was our coach.
What teammate was most memorable?
Jenni Ryan Whitefield was just as loud then as she is now but always passionate and fun to be around! I enjoyed each person on the squad.
What degrees have you earned?
I graduated from Lipscomb in 1997 with a B.A. in Political Science, and I earned my J.D. in 2000 from Pepperdine School of Law.
Why did you attend Lipscomb?
The size and location of Lipscomb were a huge draw. I wanted to be a part of a campus and a community that I could connect with, and Lipscomb was perfect for me in that regard.
What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?
Riding on the cheer bus (van) with James Rose (Big Dave) and our squad! In hindsight, we ate a little too much cake icing and cookie dough, but I’m sincerely grateful for those memories made and the friendships that followed.
What do you remember about Lipscomb campus life during your time here?
I enjoyed cheering, the social club Kappa Chi, Singarama, SGA and all that Lipscomb had to offer. I had the honor of cheering for Coach (Don) Meyer during the John Pierce days in the old McQuiddy Gym, which was awesome!
What are the most valuable lessons you learned in your time at Lipscomb?
The importance of solid friendships and community. I also learned the importance of investing time and energy in others and the cool by-products and outcome of those investments. I’m blessed in that I still spend tons of time on a consistent basis with most of my friends from college. And even those that I don’t see as often as I’d like, I know with absolute certainty that they would always be there for anything I needed.
I was randomly placed with Jodi Tidwell Webb as my roommate in Elam Hall my freshman year, and we lived together all four years in college and my three years in Malibu at Pepperdine. She’s back in Atlanta but still one of my biggest blessings from my time at Lipscomb. I am so grateful Lipscomb created (and continues to create) a community that extends well beyond college.
Who were your favorite professors?
Craig Bledsoe (my academic advisor) and Terry Briley (the sponsor of Kappa Chi) were both professors willing to go that extra mile. It’s only now that I am older with my own family and career that I truly appreciate the time and energy those two men and many others were willing to invest in students like me.
And a quick shout out to Sarah Keith Gamble for the late nights working on Advance, Quest, Singarama and about million other projects that helped to create a work ethic that I’m extremely proud of today.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and went to Goodpasture Christian School.
What do you do now?
I’m a Real Estate Attorney in Nashville at Chapman and Rosenthal Title Inc.
Tell us about your family:
I met my husband, Brandon, while living in southern California; he is now in his 19th season as head coach of Lipscomb University Volleyball (LUV). My daughter Jake is in 8th grade at Lipscomb Academy and my son Jack is in the 5th grade. Both are total gym rats.
It’s been an absolute blessing to watch from the sidelines as Lipscomb continues to grow and flourish. I am so proud of all that Lipscomb has become and grateful that my family is on campus every single day in some capacity!
