Bisons Rewind: Volleyball Dominates 2009 Campaign

NASHVILLE - For a program that has had a great run of success, the 2009 squad might be the most imposing Lipscomb volleyball team ever.

That season, the Bisons kicked off a streak of three consecutive ASUN Championships by pummeling the conference competition. Lipscomb did not lose a single game in league play, going 18-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the ASUN Tournament to earn an NCAA Tournament berth.

Overall, Lipscomb posted a 28-4 record with their only losses coming at Tennessee, at Kansas, vs Florida International, and in the NCAA Tournament against California, the ninth-ranked team in the nation. The NCAA Tournament appearance was the program's second of seven bids in the last 12 seasons, the most of any ASUN team in that time period.

The Bisons, who were named one of the Most Dominant Tennessee Teams by the Music City Sports Report, earned a number of individual accolades that season. Alex Kelly and Stefine "Jake" Pease earned the first two AVCA All-South Region honors in program history.

Kelly was also named ASUN Player of the Year for the second season in a row, while head coach Brandon Rosenthal earned his first of three ASUN Coach of the Year awards. Kelly and Pease were First-Team All-Conference and Meghan Hinemeyer was on the Second Team, and Pease was named the ASUN Tournament MVP for the second time.
