NORMAN, Okla. - Lipscomb men's golf's Nolan Ray continues to pile up the accolades as the standout earned a pair of academic honors this week.
CoSIDA released its Academic All-America At-Large Teams on Friday, and Ray was voted Third-Team All-American, the first such honor in program history. The CoSIDA At-Large teams are composed not only of golf, but tennis, swimming, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, men's volleyball, gymnastics, fencing, and water polo student-athletes.
The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) also released the first wave of 2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars and Ray was among the honorees.
Ray earned both distinctions after compiling a perfect 4.0 GPA while completing a Master's in Accounting.
The Brentwood native continues to fill up the trophy case after a stellar first season in the Purple and Gold. In addition to the CoSIDA and GCCA honors, Ray has been named Ping Honorable Mention All-American and First-Team All-Region, Academic All-District, and ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic.
Ray led the ASUN with a 70.45 scoring average, was named ASUN Player of the Week three times, won two tournaments, and finished in the top-10 of five of the seven tournaments Lipscomb participated in during the pandemic-shortened season.
Ray is the fourth Srixon/Cleveland honoree in program history following Eric Ansett (2017 and 2018), Mikey Feher (2017), and Stoney Crouch (2017).
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds.
