Bisons take control of ASUN with 84-72 win over North Florida

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Alone at the top.

In a game that had a little bit of everything, the Lipscomb men's basketball team earned a big win over North Florida, 84-72, Friday night in Allen Arena to put the Bisons in first place all by themselves in the ASUN Conference standings.

The win improved Lipscomb to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, and extended its win streak to three games.

Seniors Romeao Ferguson and Parker Hazen carried the load for the Bisons, both producing career-highs in the purple and gold.

Ferguson led the team with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. He went 8-of-11 from the field, 2-for-2 from deep and knocked down 3-of-4 on the stripe. Hazen scored his career best 17 points in only 19 minutes off the bench. He shot 5-of-6 overall and drained six of his seven free throw attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Greg Jones started quickly for the Bisons, scoring eight of the team's first 11 points after connecting on his first two 3-point attempts.

Hazen came off the bench energized the squad with a pair of makes midway through the half to sparked a run that gave Lipscomb a 20-14 lead.

After UNF worked its way back in front with its fast attack offense, the Bisons reeled off 13-4 run to take its largest lead of the half (36-27) on nice spin-and-drive from Ahsan Asadullah from the top of the key.

Lipscomb went into the break, up 36-30, after shooting 42 percent and outscoring the Ospreys 12-2 in points off turnovers. Jones scored a team-high 11 points in the frame.

Following a layup from UNF's Jose Placer to open the second half, Ferguson picked up where he left off and scored six quick points in the midst of a 12-1 surge that saw Lipscomb build its biggest advantage of the game at 48-33, less than four minutes into the period.

But just as quickly as the purple and gold's lead expanded, it evaporated as the deep shots began to fall for the Ospreys, who were 4-of-19 from long distance to that point. They erased the deficit over the next five minutes with four 3-pointers and a 16-1 run to pull the game back even, 49-49.

UNF took its first lead of the night minutes later on a jumper from Josh Endicott, 53-52.

The game seesawed back and forth over the next few minutes before Hazen went on the attack.

He was money at the free throw line and juiced Allen Arena with a monster dunk after a give-and-go sequence with Asadullah in the left corner, scoring 10 quick points, to spark a 14-5 run that put the game out of reach. Lipscomb led 75-66 with just over two minutes remaining.

The Bisons hit nine free throws down the stretch to wrap the game in purple and gold.
