Men's Basketball falls to North Florida, 72-67

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After leading by 15 points with 10:11 left in the game, Lipscomb men's basketball was unable to hang on and ultimately dropped a 72-67 decision to North Florida Saturday night in Allen Arena.

The loss moves Lipscomb to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the ASUN, while UNF improves to 4-10 and 2-2 with a split in the series.
 
Romeao Ferguson led a trio of Bisons with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. He finished 7-10 from the field and 3-3 at the line.
 
  
HOW IT HAPPENED

With the teams tied, Lipscomb reeled off 7-straight points to end the first half, capped by a Greg Jones 3-pointer to send the Bisons into the break with a 36-29 advantage.
 
Ferguson and Asadullah powered the offense in the opening frame with 19 combined points and nine rebounds.
 
The Bisons built their advantage to 13 less than a minute into the second period after back-to-back triples from Jones and KJ Johnson.
 
The Ospreys managed to work the game back to seven points at the 14:39 mark before Lipscomb responded with an 11-3 run. Ferguson, who scored 10 before halftime, led the spurt with eight of the 11 points, as the Bisons grabbed their largest lead of the game, 57-42, midway through the stanza.
 
For the second night in a row, UNF would not go away. A 7-0 run of its own and a stretch of four consecutive 3-pointers brought the game back even, 63-63, with 4:04 to play.
 
The sides traded a few buckets before UNF scored the game's final five points over the final 2:36 to earn the victory.
 
In the second half, Lipscomb was outshot 55.6 percent to 46.2 percent, and the Osprey's hit seven 3-pointers to the Bisons' two.

HERD NOTES
  • Asadullah grabbed his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Johnson added 14 points and three boards.
  • Lipscomb outrebounded UNF 36-35, and dominated the paint 39-20.
  • UNF hit 13 triples and went 7-of-9 from the line, while Lipscomb connected on six treys and 13-of-19 from the stripe.
  • Parker Hazen finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench.

Lipscomb will stay in Nashville for another big ASUN series, welcoming Florida Gulf Coast next weekend to Music City. The Bisons and Eagles will tip both games at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The series finale will be the annual Star Wars Day presented by Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics around the Arena.
