Women's Soccer Downs Middle Tennessee In First Exhibition, 1-0

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb women's soccer team took the pitch at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex for the first time in over 400 days on Friday night and came away with a 1-0 victory over Middle Tennessee.

It was the first exhibition game for both programs and Lipscomb was able to get its much anticipated spring season started on the right foot.

After the first 30-minute period went scoreless, the Bisons took the lead in the second 30-minute period thanks to a pair of newcomers and former teammates at Penn State, Kelli Beiler and Shelby Craft.

After earning a free kick, Lipscomb lined up its set piece and Craft sent the ball into the box, which connected with the head of Beiler putting the ball in the back of the net for the only goal of the game.

"It was 441 days since our last game together as a program, so to play a tough match against a great opponent was fantastic," head coach Kevin O'Brien said. "Tonight was really about knocking the rust off and building our match fitness for the regular season. We saw some great soccer from our girls and the team spirit was excellent. I know there is great potential with this team and I'm excited to get another opportunity to develop our squad on Tuesday night versus another talented C-USA opponent in Western Kentucky."

Lipscomb will end its preseason with an exhibition match as it hosts Western Kentucky on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The regular season opens on Feb. 6 with a 3 p.m. home match versus Lee University.
