SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman
Alejandro Rodriguez carded a final round 70 to climb seven spots on the leaderboard on his way to a top-15 finish at the Carolina Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Rodriguez shot 72-72-70 to come in two strokes under Par. The freshman recorded an eagle, 10 birdies and 33 pars in route to a tie for 13
th place on the individual leaderboard.
Â
Jason Hong finished in a tie for 28
th place after shooting 71-73-74. The Purdue transfer ranked second in Par 3 with a scoring average of 2.92 (-1). Hong's 38 pars ranked second amongst the field; he also carded nine birdies.
Â
"It's frustrating to see how well this team plays 95% of the time when the 5% is killing our scores. Our good is good enough! Poor execution and mindset seem to factor in later in the round." said head coach
Will Brewer. "We led the field for 10 holes in day one. Today we started very well and finished very poorly. We are confident we are growing. However, it is painful to see these men work us into a good position only to allow it to slip away. We are growing but not quite fast enough. We saw solid play from freshman Alejandro Rodríguez!" the coach added.
