Bisons make statement with dominant road win at Dayton

DAYTON – The Lipscomb men's basketball team went on the road and picked up one of the biggest wins of the Lennie Acuff era, knocking off the Dayton Flyers 78-59 Wednesday night inside UD Arena.

In a season that is less than 10 days old, the Bisons improved to 4-1 and earned their third win on the road. Dayton dropped to 1-2.

Junior Ahsan Asadullah gave the Flyers fits all night. In 29 minutes on the court, the big man poured in a game-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while pulling down eight rebounds with three assists and three blocks.

Tommy Murr exploded again off the bench with a perfect 5-for-5 night beyond the arc. He finished with 19 points in 24 minutes. Greg Jones also recorded double figures with 15 points, while draining three triples.

Lipscomb's offense was too much for Dayton as the Bisons shot 59 percent from the floor and buried 10-of-18 from deep.

  • The Bisons defense locked down the Flyers and held them to just 3-of-11 shooting to start the game.
  • With the purple and gold leading by 12, Dayton sandwiched a three from Murr with a 12-3 run to get the game back to one possession at 31-28 with 3:07 before half.
  • After seeing opponents cut into leads last weekend in Charleston with late runs in the first period, the Bisons locked in on Wednesday. Highlighted by five straight points from Murr, they ended the half on a 7-0 run and took 38-28 advantage into the break.
  • Six different Bisons scored in the first half. Asadullah led the way with 12 points, five boards and three assists, while Murr chipped in with 10.
  • KJ Johnson matched Asadullah with a team high three helpers as the team assisted on 10 makes and recorded four steals.
