Bisons drop fourth straight with 73-65 loss to Tennessee State

NASHVLLE – Lipscomb men's basketball fell 73-65 in a crosstown matchup with Tennessee State Sunday afternoon in Allen Arena.

The Bisons turned the ball over 19 times and trailed for more than 32 minutes in what was their fourth-straight loss.

FIRST HALF: Tennessee State 39, Lipscomb 28
  • Neither side could seem to find the net early on, as the Bisons started 6-of-15 from the field and the Tigers went 4-of-15.
  • The game was back-and-forth through the first eight minutes with Lipscomb leading by three after a bucket from Parker Hazen (15-12).
  • After three straight triples from TSU put Lipscomb in a six-point hole, Kaleb Coleman and Greg Jones responded with back-to-back 3-pointers for the purple and gold to pull the game back even at 21.
  • The Tigers broke the game open over a four-minute stretch late in the half with a 16-1 run that put TSU on top by 15 at 39-24 with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers went 6-of-7 from the floor during the stretch.
  • The Bisons got a bucket from Jacob Ognacevic and a pair of free throws from Quincy Clark to go into the break trailing 39-28.
  • Lipscomb shot 38.5 percent (10-26) in the half, and went just 4-of-18 from long distance.
  • Jones led the Bisons with seven points, while Ognacevic added six and Parker Hazen chipped in five with a team high four rebounds.
  • Ten turnovers led to 11 TSU turnovers as the Bisons scored on just 12 of their 35 possessions in the first half.

SECOND HALF: Lipscomb 37, Tennessee State 34
  • TSU opened the half with four straight points before Hazen buried a triple and KJ Johnson converted a layup to get back within 10 at 43-33.
  • Lipscomb went cold after that, missing its next eight shots. The Tigers used a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 15.
  • After six straight points from Grant Asman for the Bisons, TSU was able to push the game to a 17-point margin midway through the half at 58-41.
  • Will Pruitt connected on a pair of 3-pointers and Hazen netted his second long ball of the night to keep the Bisons in the game.
  • Pruitt got hot with a pair of triples and scored 10 points in the midst of a 15-4 run from the Bisons to get them to within eight with 4:13 to play (67-59).
  • A couple minutes later, Pruitt and Johnson hit three free throws before Jones knocked down his second three ball with 1:12 to play to get the Bisons to within five at 70-65.
  • After a missed free throw from TSU, Ognacevic looked to have made a layup and was headed to the free throw line to make it a two-point game, but he was whistled for a charge to give the ball back to the Tigers.
