Final Score: Arizona State - 70, Lipscomb - 54
Location: Tempe, Arizona
Records: Lipscomb: 5-8, Arizona State 8-5
THE SHORT STORY:
Lipscomb outplayed Arizona State for much of the first half, and even were within two points in the third quarter, but the Sun Devils got hot late and used an 11-0 run to pull away from the Bisons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After trading early buckets to start the game, Blythe Pearson drained a 3-pointer and then followed it with a layup to give the Bisons a 7-5 lead in the first two minutes of the action.
ASU responded with three consecutive triples and ended the first quarter on a 14-7 run to lead 19-14 after 10 minutes.
Buckets from Maddie Cook, Sydney Shelton and Dorie Harrison gave Lipscomb a 6-2 run to open the second period and make it a one-possession game, but the Sun Devils responded with an 11-4 spurt to stretch their advantage to 32-24.
The purple and gold sank three free throws down the stretch of the first half before Casey Collier crossed up her defender and sank a long-range triple at the buzzer to send the game to half with Arizona State leading just 34-32.
After shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Bisons struggled from the floor in the third period. They shot just nine percent on 1-of-11 field goals and Arizona State took advantage, outscoring Lipscomb 20-5 in the period to take a 54-35 lead.
Shelton opened the fourth frame with a triple and Collier followed up with a layup in the first minute to get the Bisons back on track.
Six players scored in the period, led by Harrison's five points, and the team shot 62 percent (8-of-13), but it wasn't enough to overcome the third-quarter deficit despite outscoring ASU 19-16 in the frame.
