INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in program history, the Lipscomb University Women's Basketball team played at the "Mecca of College Basketball," Hinkle Fieldhouse, taking on home-standing Butler University on Thursday night. While competing with the Bulldogs (2-0) through the first 20 minutes, the Bisons (0-2) suffered the 104-57 defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
McKayla Miller accounted for the Bisons' first 10 points, scoring on two layups and two 3-pointers as the Bisons moved ahead 10-7 after the Bulldogs had tied the score at 7-7. Lexi Primus followed with a layup, then hit a 3-pointer after Taya Ellis' tip-in brought the Bulldogs within 12-11, putting the Bisons back in front 15-11.

The Bulldogs used free throws to tie the game at 15-15, and after Mia Smith's layup gave the Bisons a 17-15 edge, Judit Valero hit a 3-pointer to put the Bulldogs ahead 18-17. Miller answered with a layup off Smith's assist with 21 seconds remaining, sending Lipscomb to the end of the first quarter with a 19-18 lead.

Lili Krasovec put the Bulldogs ahead 20-19 early in the second quarter, but Miller answered with two jumpers as the Bisons moved in front 23-20. The Bulldogs went back ahead on Nevaeh Jackson's fast-break layup before Primus hit a 3-pointer off Mia Smith's assist to give the Bisons a 26-24 lead at 6:14.

Butler tied it and later went up 29-26, but Miller split free throws and Hope Counts hit a jumper before Smith's fast-break layup off an assist from Presly Samz put Lipscomb ahead 31-29. The teams continued trading the lead late, with Miller's 3-pointer giving the Bisons a 34-33 edge at 1:16 before the Bulldogs closed with Judit Valero's two free throws and Krasovec's 3-pointer at the end of the quarter to take a 38-34 lead into halftime.

To start the third stanza, Counts hit a 3-pointer at 9:43 to bring the Bisons within 38-37, and Miller later made a layup and the ensuing free throw at 7:37 to put the Bisons ahead 42-41. Butler answered from there and continued to stretch the margin through the period. Mia Smith and Tess Wiczek added free throws, and Samz scored on a tip-in with 59 seconds left before the Bulldogs took a 75-49 lead into the fourth.

The fourth quarter saw some strong defense from freshman CC Quigley. Hailing from Noblesville, Indiana, just a half-hour from Hinkle Fieldhouse, she put up stellar minutes for the Bisons late in the game. She blocked Taya Ellis near the rim on the Bulldogs' first possession of the fourth quarter, and Hannah Richardson added a steal during Butler's early push. Quigley blocked two more Ellis attempts during a defensive sequence near the midpoint.
