Men's Basketball falls on the road at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Lipscomb men's basketball led late in the first half Wednesday night at Miami, but would eventually fall 76-59 to the Hurricanes at the Watsco Center.

An undermanned Bisons squad (5-5) turned the ball over 15 times and struggled from the floor, but the turning point in the game was a 5:31 scoreless drought that saw a three-point lead for the purple and gold turn into an 11-point deficit after a 14-0 run from the Hurricanes.

Kaleb Coleman led the Bisons with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-5 from deep. KJ Johnson added nine points and a team high five assists, while freshman Quincy Clark recorded a career high nine points and a pair of steals.
 
FIRST HALF
  • Greg Jones scored the first points of the night for the Bisons with a triple after Miami opened 5-0.
  • Coleman checked into the game at the 12:25 mark the buried a 3-pointer just 18 seconds later to tie the game at 11.
  • Coleman continued to get buckets, scoring 10 consecutive points over the next 2:30 of game play to give Lipscomb its first lead of the night at 18-17.
  • The action seesawed over the next few possessions before scores from Johnson, Parker Hazen and Will Pruitt extended the Bisons lead to 24-21 with six minutes on the clock.
  • Miami retook the lead and gave itself some cushion with 16-4 run to close the half.
  • The Bisons missed six consecutive shots and turned the ball over three times in the span before a layup from Johnson sent them into the half down 35-26.
  • Lipscomb shot 34.5 percent (10-29) overall and just 25 percent from deep (3-12).
  • Coleman led the team with 10 points, while Johnson chipped in nine. No other player had multiple field goal makes.
  • Jacob Ognacevic, the team's leading scorer, went 0-for-4 from the floor and did not get into the scoring column.
 
SECOND HALF
  • Ognacevic and Hazen combined to score the first 10 points of the half, trimming the deficit to as many as eight on three occasions.
  • Miami's Kameron Mcgusty caught fire early in the half, scoring 13 points in a 16-points span with three triples. His run helped pushed Miami's lead to as many as 19 with just under seven minutes on the clock.
  • Clark responded for the Bisons with a couple buckets before a trey from Tanner Shulman got it back to within 14 at 5:35.
  • The Hurricanes upped their advantage to as many as 19 and Lipscomb was never able to make much of a dent before the final buzzer sounded.
  •  Clark scored all nine of his points in the second half, while Ognacevic added eight.
  • Hazen chipped in four points and five rebounds in 13 minutes after half.
  • Lipscomb shot 39.4 percent (13-33) as a team in the half and went just 4-of-16 from long range.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Bisons shot 37 percent overall (23-62) and connected on just 7-of-28 three-point attempts.
  • Lipscomb held its own on the boards, pulling down 34 rebounds that included a game-high nine on the offensive end.
  • The Bisons outscored Miami 28-7 from the bench and dished 13 assists.
  • Hazen led the team in rebounding with seven, while Ognacevic added six.
  • Johnson led the team with five assists, while Clark was credited with three.
