JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite a near double-double from Ahsan Asadullah, the Lipscomb men's basketball team dropped a 66-60 ASUN Conference decision to Jacksonville Friday night in Swisher Gym.
The Bisons fell to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in league play, while the Dolphins halted a seven-game skid in improving to 10-11 and 4-7.
Asadullah was a problem in the paint all night for the host, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds with three assists and two steals. He went 11-of-16 from the floor and snatched five offensive boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb scored first when Asadullah laid one in at the 18:51 mark. It was the only lead of the game for the Bisons as JU scored the next five points to take the advantage.
The sides battled back-and-forth over the next 10 minutes before the Dolphins drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to build a 19-11 lead at 9:16. The Bisons charged right back with a 7-0 run as Greg Jones nailed a triple, Romeao Ferguson hit his patented jumper from the paint, and Asadullah deposited an easy lay-in.
The first half really blew open in the final two minutes, despite trailing just four points after KJ Johnson's bucket following a steal and an assists from Asadullah.
Jacksonville scored nine straight points, including back-to-back threes, to close out the half and go into the locker room with a 39-26 lead over the Bisons.
Down 14 early in the second period, Lipscomb began its comeback.
The trio of Asadullah, Ferguson and Johnson powered the purple and gold to outscore the Dolphins 19-9 in the first 10 minutes. That run made it a one-possession game with JU on top 47-45.
The Dolphins stretched their lead back out to nine on a Dontarius James jumper.
Greg Jones nailed a couple 3-pointers in the final minutes to keep the Bisons close, pulling them to within three and four points, respectively.
However, that would be as close as they would get as JU went 4-for-4 from the stripe in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
