Harrison's career day leads Lady Bisons to 8th-straight home victory

NASHVILLE -  – Behind a career-high effort from Dorie Harrison and a strong game on the glass, Lipscomb women's basketball defeated Jacksonville 66-55 Saturday afternoon in Allen Arena.

The win improved the Lady Bisons to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the ASUN Conference, while the Dolphins dropped to 3-11 and 1-8.

Harrison scored all 18 of her points after halftime and grabbed seven boards in leading Lipscomb to 51 rebounds, its most in a game since Dec. 5, 2015.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind early, Lipscomb got going from deep when reigning ASUN Freshman of the Week, Jordan Peete, knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers from each side of the floor to help take an 11-8 lead after the first quarter.
 

The purple and gold started attacking the Dolphins at the rim in the second quarter, scoring 10 points in the paint and turning five turnovers into seven points, to take a 28-18 lead at the half.


The duo of Jane Deason and Harrison got hot in the third period, combining for 14 of the team's 22 points in the quarter. Deason drilled back-to-back 3-pointers before Harrison scored eight points to help Lipscomb take a 21-point lead through three (50-29).

 


Sydney Shelton heated up in the fourth quarter on both ends for the Lady Bisons. She buried a pair of triples on her way to making it a 24-point lead, the biggest of the game for Lipscomb midway through the period.


The Lady Bisons were able to hold off a late rally to remain unbeaten in Allen Arena this season.

HERD NOTES
  • Lipscomb outscored JU 34-12 in the paint and 24-15 off the bench.
  • The Lady Bisons shot 40 percent from the floor and held the Dolphins to just 28 percent.
  • Harrison finished 8-of-13 from the floor and did her work in just 17 minutes off the bench.
  • Taylor Clark and Shelton each added 10 points in the win. Clark finished with six boards and two assists, while Shelton nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds and four helpers.
  • Deason contributed nine points, five rebounds and a team-high two steals. She hit a team-high three triples.
  • Casey Collier scored five points, grabbed four rebounds and dish a team-best five dimes.
  • Eight different Bisons pulled down at least four rebounds, while nine were in the scoring column.

Lipscomb and Jacksonville will wrap up the weekend on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. Sunday in Music City.
