Women's Basketball rolls past Jacksonville for longest win streak in a decade

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women's basketball team kept up its winning ways Sunday by defeating Jacksonville 63-36 in Allen Arena on Valentine's Day.

It was the largest win for the Lady Bisons over an ASUN opponent since defeating USC Upstate (95-53) in the first round of the conference tournament on March 2, 2018.

The win moved Lipscomb to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in the ASUN Conference. They have now won four consecutive games for the first time since at least the 2011-12 season, and remain undefeated at home (9-0) on the year.

Despite having no player in double figures, seven different Lady Bisons scored at least six points and 12 put their name in the scoring column. Lindsey Whiteside, Taylor Clark and Jane Deason led the team with nine points each.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb opened the game strong on both ends of the court, jolting out to a 19-11 lead after the first quarter. A trio of Bisons connected from long range on the offensive end while holding JU (3-12, 1-9) to a 1-for-10 start from the field.

The long-distance makes kept falling for Lipscomb in the second period as Deason and Whiteside hit two each to build a 22-point advantage at the break. The purple and gold defense stifled the Dolphins once again, limiting them to just a 1-for-12 quarter in taking a 37-15 lead into the locker room.

After JU scored to open the third period, the Lady Bisons put together a 9-0 run capped by a deep three from Clark before the media timeout. Another stout defensive effort held the Dolphins to just 2-of-12 shooting in the quarter to take a 27-point lead into the fourth at 50-23.
 

Lipscomb finished off Jacksonville in the fourth stanza with bookend 3-pointers from Clark and Taylor Hammack. JU finished just 2-of-15 shooting in the period, but managed to score 12 of its 36 points in the frame - eight of which came from the free throw line.

HERD NOTES
  • A day after pulling down 51 rebounds, Lipscomb dominated the glass for the second game in a row with 54 boards. It was the most in a game since recording 55 against Morehead State on Nov. 10, 2013.
  • Sunday's victory gave the Lady Bisons their third ASUN series sweep in 2021. It matches the most in a single-season since also earning three in 2018 (NJIT, Kennesaw State, North Florida).
  • Whiteside set a career high in points (9) and rebounds (8) in just 17 minutes. She went 3-of-5 from long range.
  • Deason matched Whiteside for a team high with three triples. She pulled down four rebounds with her nine points.
  • Casey Collier added seven points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists. She grabbed four offensive boards.
  • Shelton played just 15 minutes, but managed to get seven points and four rebounds.
  • Jordan Peete and Dorie Harrison contributed six points each. Harrison (11) finished one board shy of her career high.
  • Lipscomb finished 10-of-35 from 3-point range. It marked the sixth time this season the team has hit double digits from deep, and the first since 16 vs. Bellarmine (1/9/21).
  • The Lady Bisons dished 10 assists, scored 25 bench points and outscored JU 25-12 in the paint.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bisons are currently set to travel to North Florida next weekend for a pair of 1 p.m. CT matchups on Saturday and Sunday. Depending on ASUN COVID testing and protocols, that schedule could change next week.
