Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bisons Fall To Bellarmine, 1-0

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season, losing 1-0 to ASUN foe Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The Bisons controlled possession for the majority of the match and out-shot the Knights 7-1 in the second half, but couldn't break through to find the back of the net.

Lipscomb goalkeeper Michael Sibley was active in the first 45 minutes making four saves, meanwhile the Bisons offense was having trouble getting anything going. The Purple and Gold attempted just one shot in the first half, but with Sibley's efforts the match remained scoreless going into halftime.

In the second half, Lipscomb came out the aggressors and created a couple of dangerous opportunities, but never could capitalize.

The turning point in the match came in the 81st minute, as Bellarmine made its only shot of the second half count. After gaining possession in Lipscomb's defensive end the Knights quickly went on the offensive and got the ball into 18-yard box. From there, Micah Linscott dropped off a pass to Haziq Zed, who slotted his shot into the lower right corner of the net breaking the 0-0 tie.

With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, the Bisons tried their best efforts to press forward and find an equalizing goal. Ryan Dougherty and Alejandro Lopez each had two good looks in the closing seconds, but Bellarmine goalkeeper Matthew Brozovich stopped both attempts.

HERD NOTES:
  • Lopez led the way offensively for the Bisons with three shots. Dougherty was next in line with two.
  • The Bisons earned seven corner kicks, while the Knights earned four.
  • The loss ends Lipscomb's three-game winning streak to start the season. It is also the first win for Bellarmine at the Division I level.
  • A total of nine Bisons played the full 90 minutes.
UP NEXT:
Lipscomb will partake in the Battle of the Boulevard as it heads down the road to take on Belmont. The match is set for March 2 from E.S. Rose Park with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
