Box Score NASHVILLE – The 2021 edition of the Battle of the Boulevard was a roller coaster for Lipscomb Men's Soccer as they fell 2-1 to Belmont at E.S. Rose Park Tuesday evening.
The Bruins got out to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute after an early goal.
Lipscomb finally started to get things going on the offensive end in the 19' when
William Turner blasted the first Bisons shot of the night.
Javanne Smith got off the only other Lipscomb shot in the first half with a strike that sailed over the crossbar in the 44'.
After a slow first half, the Bisons settled in after the break and applied continued pressure in their final third. The first Lipscomb shot on frame came in the 50' by
Hayes Wood that forced a Belmont save.
The Bisons continued to pressure the Bruins' defense, earning five corner kids in the final 45 minutes.
The equalizer finally came for Lipscomb in the 84' when Wood found
Noah Gulden who tucked in his first goal of the season to tie the match 1-1.
After 90 minutes wasn't enough to decide the match, the sides would head to a golden-goal overtime period. Neither team got a shot off in the first overtime period, sending the match to a second and final overtime period.
Belmont eventually found the game-winner in the 104' to seal the 2-1 victory.
