Women's Soccer Hosts Kennesaw State Sunday To Open Conference Play

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb women's soccer team hosts ASUN foe Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon as it begins conference play for the 2021 spring season.

The Bisons and Owls are set to kick off from the Lipscomb Soccer Complex at 2 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on YouTube with John Freeman, the play-by-play radio broadcaster for Nashville SC, and current Nashville SC player Taylor Washington providing commentary for the broadcast.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT:
  • The Owls are out to a 1-3 start in 2021 and are currently on a three-game losing skid. KSU's lone win, however, came against Jacksonville in a conference matchup.
  • Last season, KSU ended the season with a 11-7-2 record.
  • The Owls leading goal scorer from a season ago, Becky Contreras, returns for her sophomore season. She scored five goals in her freshman campaign.
  • Senior Erin Harris will provide experience and leadership. Harris led the Owls with six assists in 2019.
HERD NOTES:
  • Sunday's contest will be a rematch of the 2019 ASUN championship match, which saw the Bisons advance in thrilling fashion (4-3 on penalty kicks) to claim their second-consecutive ASUN Conference championship and berth to the NCAA tournament.
  • In the all-time series, KSU leads with a 11-7-1 advantage, but Lipscomb has gone 3-1-1 over the last five meetings.
  • The purple and gold earned their first win of the season last week, defeating East Tennessee State, 2-1, in Johnson City.
  • Goals from Molly Grant and Kelli Beiler lifted Lipscomb to victory in a dominating offensive performance.
  • Lipscomb out-shot ETSU by a mark of 25-2 and had 11 shots on goal in the win over ETSU.
  • The goals from Beiler and Grant both marked their first on the season. Grant also assisted on Beiler's goal.
  • Freshman CJ Graham made her collegiate debut in goal and earned the first win of her career last week. She made one save in her first outing.
  • The Bisons were picked to repeat as league champions in the preseason coaches poll. It was the second year in a row the league coaches voted Lipscomb as the preseason favorite.
