Women's Tennis falls 5-2 to Xavier

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb women's tennis dropped a 5-2 decision on Friday against Xavier at the Whitworth Racquet Club in the team's first match in three weeks.

"Xavier is a really good team and it was great to have them come down and play a competitive match this weekend after having our last two weeks canceled," head coach Jamie Aid said. "We have to continue to hack away at the doubles play as it's been one of our weakest areas this year."

The Musketeers (6-1) opened up the match by taking the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot and a 6-1 victory at No. 3.

Xavier won the first four singles matchups, three in straight sets, to clinch the match before Sasha Dobranos came from behind to win a hard-fought 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6) decision on the fourth line.

"Sasha continues to really be a competitor on the court," Aid said. "She made some adjustments after dropping the first set to come back and fight off match point in the third to get the win. I am really proud of how our freshmen are playing right now."

Liza Diachenko then won No. 5 singles 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 over XU's Lucy Octave to set the final score.

"Liza played really solid tennis today and I thought it was one of her better matches of the year so far," Aid said. "She was really enjoying herself and it was fun to see."
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will start its outdoor play next weekend on campus as the Bisons (3-3) welcome Memphis to Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center for a 2 p.m. match on Friday, March 5.
"I'm pleased that we are able to get some of these challenging nonconference matches under our belt. We will continue getting better and better and get ready for conference play later in March."
