Women's Tennis drops first matches of season

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women's tennis team dropped both of its matches this weekend, falling 6-1 to ETSU on Friday and 7-0 at No. 15 Vanderbilt on Saturday.

We had our chances against ETSU and did not execute on deuce points and important games," head coach Jamie Aid said. "Vanderbilt is top 15 in the country again and they were comfortable in executing points."

In doubles after ETSU took the first pairing, Kate Popova and Emma Zakordoniec pulled the Bisons back even with a 6-4 victory at the top line. The Bucs ended up winning the third to take the doubles point.

Popova earned the lone singles victory for the Bisons at the No. 1 position by a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 over Laylo Bakhodirova.

On Saturday, the Commodores won every match in straight sets.

"We have a very young team and I believe they are really tackling practices and matches well. This group is in need of match experience and those tight situations. As a staff we look forward to begin to take this team through a tougher part of the schedule."
