NASHVILLE - NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men's soccer team continued their strong start to the season on Tuesday night as the Bisons blanked Alabama-Huntsville 3-0 at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
The Purple and Gold scored early and never looked back, as Austin Marfell continued the freshmen scoring trend from the season opener with his first career goal in the 8th minute. Marfell slotted home the assist from Alejandro Lopez. Noah Gulden was also involved in the buildup.
The game remained 1-0 for nearly 60 minutes following the first score when Lipscomb broke things open with back-to-back goals.
Killian Byrne came off the bench to slot home a goal that deflected off a defender. Hayes Wood set up Byrne with the assist in the 64th minute.
Tyrese Spicer followed quickly just one minute later by rocketing home his second goal of the season. Spicer knocked home the score after Javanne Smith set things up with a deflected shot of his own.
Michael Sibley was responsible for the clean sheet, making four saves including a huge pair of consecutive stops in the 57th minute.
THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH CHARLES MORROW
"I'm really proud of the guys tonight, especially off of a quick turnaround from the game Saturday. These midweeks are tough to get up for and prepare for with heavy legs. I thought that our guys handled it extremely well. They, for the most part, managed the game pretty well too.
"It's good to be 2-0 going into the weekend. I'm really excited for the challenge on Saturday against ETSU, which will be a big challenge. I'm not sure if they played yet, so we're going to get them fresh for sure. It's a big challenge for the group. We'll rest up and rehab and try to get healthy and get our legs back underneath us.
Right now, the way things are working, the upperclassmen are the unsung heroes in terms of dictating how the game is going to be played and moving the ball and those kinds of things. And the freshmen are stepping in and finishing chances. I'm really proud and excited for the group of young players that we have."
