Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Central Arkansas, 2-1

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men's soccer team earned a hard fought 2-1 win over eventual ASUN newcomers Central Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. Tyrese Spicer and Ryan Dougherty netted the goals for the Bisons and a key save from goalkeeper Michael Sibley propelled the Bisons to victory.

Lipscomb grabbed the lead early in the match, scoring in the seventh minute, courtesy of Spicer. After Lipscomb regained possession and played the ball back in the defensive zone to Sibley, the goalkeeper sent a long-ball into the attacking third looking for Spicer. The freshman let the ball bounce into the 18-yard box and got past his defender to open up a shooting window. Spicer, in a sliding effort, then buried his shot in the back of the net giving the Bisons some early momentum.

Central Arkansas would find an equalizer just before the half, however. The Bears capitalized on a counter attack as Masood Porsa snuck behind the Bisons back line for a breakaway goal bringing the match back to even. Shuto Yoneno assisted on the goal.

The moment of the match came in the 60th minute. Central Arkansas' Rubyn Gill drew a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Katsuyoshi Kimishima was called upon to take the penalty for the Bears, but Sibley was prepared for the challenge making a diving save to his right.

Immediately the Bisons went on the attack. The ball eventually found its way to Noah Gulden near the end line and the defender dropped the ball back into the middle of the box finding an open Dougherty, who sent a strike into the net, putting Lipscomb back in front, 2-1.

The Bisons defense held strong over the final 30 minutes, despite a pressing Central Arkansas attack, preserving the victory.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH CHARLES MORROW:
"Today was a really good test for us and Central Arkansas is a really tough team. I'm excited for them to come into the conference next year and think we'll have really good competitions in years to come.

"Excited to get the win today and sort of keep things rolling off the win on the weekend. I think we made this game a lot more difficult than it needed to be. Hitting the post a couple of times, missing a one-on-one with a keeper and as much as I'm happy with a win, the players hold themselves to a higher standard and certainly we do as coaches.

"In terms of performances today, really excited to get Tyrese back more into the swing of things, with not only last game but this game. The player of the day for me is probably Michael Sibley with a PK stop and then the assist on the first goal.

"On the second goal, Dougherty is someone who really plays at a high level for us. He's had a couple of games here of late where he played well, but not to his capabilities. So, to get him in the score line will hopefully be a boost of confidence that we'll see in the upcoming games."
