Women's Tennis wraps up busy outdoor weekend

| Box Score 2 NASHVILLE – Lipscomb women's tennis wrapped up weekend play on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over Illinois State on campus at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center. The victory gave the Bisons a 1-2 weekend after suffering 6-1 and 4-2 setbacks to Memphis and UAB, respectively, the previous two days.

Lipscomb is now 4-5 on the year entering the final nonconference week of the season.

"It was a hard weekend against very good teams," Lipscomb head coach Jamie Aid said. "We had yet to go on the road for a match this season, so being able to travel to UAB and play a true road match was great for our team.

"We still need to tighten some basics in doubles. The competition level at home against Illinois State was by far our best performance up and down the lineup."

The Bisons lone victory on Friday against Memphis came at No. 6 singles where Eleanor Chapman fought to come from behind to win 0-6, 6-4, 10-5.

On Saturday, Lipscomb traveled to Birmingham to take on the Blazers and after dropping the doubles point, the Bisons earned wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.

Freshman Sasha Dobranos won in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, while junior Maddox Bandy came from behind 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. The Bisons fought hard, but lost two other singles in three sets.

Lipscomb fell behind once again on Sunday with defeats at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, both by scores of 6-3.

After going down 2-0 in the match, the Bisons came back to win the next four singles in straight sets to get the victory.

Dobranos dispatched her opponent on the third line 6-1, 6-3, before Emma Zakordoniec won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

Liza Diachenko made quick work on the fourth line (6-0, 6-4) and Chapman clinched the match on court No. 6 (6-3, 7-5).

Lipscomb will host Radford on campus Thursday, March 11 at Noon, before traveling to Murray State on Saturday, March 13 for a Noon first serve.
