Box Score NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Baseball fell 9-5 to Appalachian State in extra innings Friday night at Ken Dugan Field.
Despite taking an early 5-0 lead, the Bisons were unable to sustain a late Mountaineers surge and ultimately fell after 11 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Malik Williams.
- A four-run inning increased the Bisons' lead 5-0 after three complete innings. Chris Bashlor, Williams and Carter Smith all had RBI base hits to score the four runs in the bottom of the third.
- App State scored five unanswered runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to even the game 5-5.
- Lipscomb got the winning run on the base paths in the bottom of the ninth but stranded the run.
- In the bottom of the tenth, Lipscomb loaded the bases but was unable to score the winning run.
- The Mountaineers plated four runs in the top of the 11th to secure the 9-5 victory.
HERD NOTES
- Tiger Borom, Williams, Smith and Brian Moore all notched hits.
- Williams was the only Bison to record extra hits.
- Max Habegger threw 5.2 innings with four runs, four strikeouts and one walk.
- Tyler Guilfoil was effective on the mound going four innings with one hit, no runs and seven strikeouts.
