NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Baseball fell 6-3 to North Alabama in the series opener Friday night at Ken Dugan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Alabama took an early lead with a run in the first and three in the second for a 4-0 lead. The Lions added another in the fifth to extend its advantage 5-0.
The Bisons finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth.
Robbie Merced knocked a one-out base hit to give Lipscomb some momentum.
UNA threatened to strand yet another Lipscomb runner, but
Maddux Houghton sent a triple to left center that put Lipscomb on the board.
Houghton later scored from third on a wild pitch to cut the Lions' lead 5-2 at the end of five.
In the bottom of the sixth,
David Graves single-handedly scored another run with a long ball hit down the right field line to make it a 5-3 ballgame.
The Lions got a run back in the top of the eighth to stretch the lead back out 6-3.
The Bisons tried to rally late with back-to-back hits to lead off the bottom of the ninth but were unable to mount the comeback and fell 6-3 at Ken Dugan Field.
HERD NOTES
- Malik Williams went 4-for-5 and Graves went 3-for-4.
- Lipscomb outhit North Alabama 14-13.
- The Bisons left 10 on base.
