NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Baseball dropped a heartbreaking 5-3 decision Saturday night at Ken Dugan Field. The Bisons lead or were tied with the Lions the entire game until North Alabama scored what would be the game-winning runs in the top of the ninth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons took the lead in the bottom of the third after
Robbie Merced leadoff the inning with a double.
He went on to score when
Tiger Borom picked up the first RBI of the game for a 1-0 lead.
North Alabama tied the game in the top of the fifth after Lipscomb walked a Lion with the bases loaded.
Tyler Drabick was able to get out of the jam with little damage and a 1-1 tie ballgame.
Lipscomb responded by retaking the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Once again, Merced reached as the leadoff man and was pushed to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt.
Merced crossed home plate for the second time when
Maddux Houghton blasted a double to left center field to give Lipscomb a 2-1 lead.
The Lions quickly tied things back up with a run of their own in the top of the sixth for a 2-2 ballgame.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the bottom of the sixth when Lipscomb retook the lead.
Malik Williams worked a leadoff walk and
David Graves rocketed a hit down the left field line to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Chaz Bertolani delivered the go-ahead RBI with an infield hit that would give the Bisons a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Once again, North Alabama tied it back up 3-3 in the top of the seventh. The Lions took its first lead of the night in the top of the ninth inning with two runs for a 5-3 lead.
Ultimately, the Bisons were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth as Lipscomb fell 5-3.
